Description:

Inspired by counterculture magazines and DIY guides of the 1970s, students designed and printed their own “how-to” poster to complement the theme of an upcoming museum exhibit. Students stretched their minds and thought about their own areas of expertise in a speedy sticky note ideation session, then transitioned to miming the instructions of their chosen topic with a partner. Through the week, students worked on finalizing their poster’s design, spending time to think about how their work will translate into a monochromatic riso poster print as the machine scans art in greyscale. From the more abstract, like “how to daydream,” “how to go wandering,” and “how to play like a girl,” to the more concrete, like “how to make a memory box,” “how to sew a button,” and “how to make a duct tape dummy,” these posters have been signed and editioned by each artist and are ready to be bound together in our very own Girls Garage DIY guide!
