Session: Builder Bootcamp Summer 2021

Builders: 37 participants, 9-13 years old

Materials: Douglas Fir 2x4s, exterior paint, paintbrushes, drill, driver, speed square, chop saw, coated wood screws

Description: Over the course of 3 weeks in summer 2021, our Builder Bootcamp participants built 18 tables for the teen-built greenhouse at Willard Middle School. With instruction and encouragement from Allison Oropallo, Augusta Sitney, and Emily Pilloton-Lam, our young builders learned how to safely use different power tools—such as the chop saw, drill, and impact driver—to construct the greenhouse tables. After building and assembling the tables, the students then used bright exterior paint to weather-proof the lumber and give the tables a bright, cheery finish!
