In our winter 2023 session of Protest + Print, our students took on the challenge of reclaiming workwear for their female and gender-expansive identities. Dovetail Workwear partnered with us, supplying our teenagers with the thermal trucker jacket and Oahe work jacket to use as blank canvases. Over the course of 8 weeks, our students ripped, stitched, embroidered and painted the jackets to march their own lived experiences and personalities.

Bay Area-based professional photographer Smeeta Mahanti swung by the Girls Garage studio to take portraits of our students and instructors. It was a photoshoot to remember, and we were honored to have our students’ spirits captured in such a beautiful way.
