Description: In this vibrant and inspiring workshop, teen artists at Girls Garage poured their creativity into crafting heartfelt a collaborative love letter zine that celebrates the unique spirit of the Bay Area. Under the guidance of talented printmaking artists Miriam Stahl and HyeYoon Song—both of whom brought their expertise and passion to the class—participants explored a variety of printmaking techniques, including paper-cutting, linoleum block printing, and risograph printing. These hands-on methods allowed the students to bring their visions to life, creating intricate and personal depictions of iconic Bay Area structures, hidden gems, and local experiences that have shaped their connection to the region. Each page of the zine reflects the diverse perspectives of the artists, capturing the essence of the Bay Area through their eyes.
The resulting 24-page riso-printed zine is a beautiful compilation of art, stories, and poems that celebrate beloved local landmarks, memorable experiences, and personal connections to the area. From whimsical portraits of pop culture icons like Andy Samberg on a giant shrimp, to a claw machine at Nomi’s and a charming Victorian home, the zine captures a wide array of the Bay Area’s diverse cultural tapestry in a way that is deeply personal and artistically compelling.
