Session: Protest + Print, Winter 2026
Artists: 7 high school students
Materials: 11×17 paper, black markers/pens, stapler, rubber stamps (letters, shapes, things, etc.), black archival ink, scissors
Tools: iPad or tablet, Apple pencil or stylus, ProCreate, Riso
This winter, Protest + Print students experimented with a new medium: animation! These young artists imagined their own activist mascots after completing a few comical rounds of exquisite corpses, the collaborative drawing game that is as chaotic as it is creatively freeing. With expert guidance from instructor Alex Bowman, students used Procreate to animate quirky details to their mascots, including sparkling stars, flying bugs, shifting eyes, and spinning belts one frame at a time. And because we just had way too much fun with these exquisite corpse activist mascots, we printed a riso zine with these characters full of additional exclusive art. On our last day, we hosted a short film festival and watched each students’ animations come to life with music! Watch it above!
