For women and gender-expansive individuals ready to dive into a career in construction, this 60-hour job training program will prepare you with the skills, both technical and interpersonal, to make the leap! Led by extraordinary instructor/carpenter Evie Ortiz, participants will learn safe tool use, carpentry and construction terminology, building standards, OSHA-certified safety regulations, and project management. Each program will apply these skills to build a structure that complies with construction standards and high quality control, with opportunities to make collaborative design decisions as a cohort. As an all womxn’s space, we also create space for discussions about physical safety, discrimination, and how to seek female support and mentorship within the building trades. Students will leave with the vocabulary, confidence, and jobsite skills to pursue ongoing training, apprenticeships, or entry-level positions. We offer this program in 2 formats: a 10-week session that meets every Saturday for 6 hours per day, or a 2-week intensive, which meets Monday-Friday for two weeks, for 6 hours per day. Participants who complete this program with full attendance will receive a stipend of $600.
Upcoming session: Saturdays, Spring 2027. Registration opens October 1, 2026.
Cost: Free. Additionally, participants receive a $600 stipend upon completion and full attendance.
Enrollment: 16 participants, ages 18+
