Session: Protest and Print Class, Spring 2019

Builders: 10 girls, ages 14-17

Description: This project built on themes of our Winter Protest and Print class, which had girls create screen-printed designs of meaningful messages. First, each girl brainstormed a message that she would like to impart onto middle school students: something specific to her experience and outlook. The girls were tasked with expressing these messages with a hand gesture, and drawing out their hand gestures on paper. They then transposed the drawings onto large pieces of butcher paper, and cut them out with scissors. Finally, the young artists wheat-pasted their large-scale images onto chosen surfaces at Realm middle school, where their messages relayed to hundreds of middle school students every day.
