Session: Womxn in the Woodshop, Spring 2025

Builders: 12 adult student

Materials: 3/4” birch plywood, chop saw, track saw, table saw, drill press, Shaper CNC hand router, hand drill, impact driver, staple gun

Description:

Each spring, we take a break from our middle school Carpentry + Wood program to open the Girls Garage shop to a diverse group of adult womxn. Throughout the workshop, participants of all experience levels tackled new tools, from the track saw and table saw to the Shaper Origin, and worked together to build six functional wood cube modules for Youth Speaks, our newest community partner. What stood out most was the supportive energy in the shop: participants cheered each other on, celebrated every new accomplishment, and shared stories of healing and growth through hands-on work. By the end, the workshop not only produced beautiful, functional pieces but also a thriving community of confident builders excited to keep making and learning together.
