This past summer, we once again partnered with the Women’s Daytime Drop-In Center, a fantastic social service agency that provides free counseling, housing, and job services to homeless women and their children. In the front office of their center, they have no furniture that is functional as both a desk surface and a storage system for the hygiene products and clothing they give out. In our second week of summer camp, we designed and constructed a cubby-based system with a desk. Girls used a chop-saw, drill and driver (and very precise pilot holes), sanders and stain to build the unit. At the end of the week we carried the entire fixture over to the center, 8 blocks away, and installed it in the office.
