Session: Builder Bootcamp, summer 2024
Artists: 37 middle school students
Materials: 8.5×11 white copy paper, black pens/pencils/markers, glue-stick, scotch tape, washi tape, risograph printer
Description: To accompany our cat sculpture for Berkeley Animal Care Services, our middle school students put on their “artist” caps to create individual promotional flyers for the adoptable animals at the shelter! Each student was assigned a dog or cat (and in one case, a hamster) and were tasked with designing a bespoke poster for the animal. At the beginning of the week, the students walked over to the shelter to meet the animals in-person, which was a true delight! After speaking with the staff and getting a sense for the animals’ personalities, the students spent hours designing a poster, which they printed on the risograph printer. At the end of the week, the students walked back to the animal shelter and taped the posters on all of the adoptable animals’ kennels!
